As October approaches, south Florida prepares for the coming season which means cold and flu season is close to follow with the onslaught of winter residents. Keeping your immune system strong and healthy can be challenging during this time but being diligent with your diet, exercise and health care regimen can minimize and/or prevent your susceptibility to any bugs this season. If you are choosing to receive flu shots, Covid boosters and other seasonal injections, etc, I recommend you do them singularly. Last year I had a number of patients who had bad reactions to the combo shots.
On the menu of healthy habits, I recommend are:

- Getting adjusted at least once a month as spinal adjustments keep the nervus system functioning optimally which then in turn influences optimum functioning of your immune system.
- Massage therapy and acupuncture which both reduce stressors that can compromise your immune system by raising cortisol levels.

- Drinking the recommended daily amount of water to hydrate and flush your system of unwanted debris and disease-causing bugs.
- Adding lemon to your water will increase Vit C to your system which has anti-biotic properties amongst others.

- Regular aerobic activity approximately 30 minutes a day which improves circulation, helps with weight loss, flushes the lymphatic and muscular systems to help detox the body.
- Regular sleep allows your body to rest, recuperate and keep the immune system strong.

- Eat a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables, healthy fats and fermented foods to help maintain a healthy gut.
- Wash your hands regularly to prevent the spread of infections.

- Get out in the sunshine and fresh air at least 15-20 min/day which helps your body produce Vit D which is essential for your immune system.
Practicing these habits daily will help maintain a healthy immune system and minimize susceptibility to sickness and help reduce your symptoms if you do unfortunately fall ill.
